Heumann Environmental plays integral role in Zilkha Biomass Energy's black pellet fuel plant

SELMA, Ala. – Heumann Environmental, a company that engineers and installs specialized equipment to optimize production processes, has provided its industrial expertise to the renewable energy company Zilkha Biomass Energy and its Alabama black pellet fuel production plant.

When fully operational, the facility will be the world's first full-scale commercial black pellet plant, with a yearly production capacity of 275,000 metric tons. The plant produces black pellets, a high-density energy source and coal alternative that is made from a biomass of pre-dried, compressed green wood.

For its part, Heumann Environmental integrated high efficiency cyclones into Zilkha's production process, which separates the wood fibers to be made into pellets. In addition, the Heumann equipment maximizes fiber yield and minimizes emissions. The end product is durable, water resistant, has a higher energy content than comparative pellet products and is less expensive to ship.

"We are delighted to contribute our skills and resources to further develop a process that has the potential to grow as an alternative energy source and reduce the emissions produced by coal," said Bill Heumann, CEO of Heumann Environmental.

"We chose Heumann because they had a reputation for both tackling unusual applications such as our thermal conditioning technology, and for great customer service," said Clyde Stearns, VP of Engineering at Zilkha Biomass Energy. “They lived up to their reputation and provided a good technical solution at a very competitive price. It was good to have a partner we could count on to deliver well-engineered products on-time and on-budget.”

In 2010, the renewable energy company opened its first production facility in Texas with a 40,000 metric ton per year capacity.

Heumann Environmental Company gains additional resources through purchase by Andrew Elliot Group

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (February 14, 2012) -- The private equity holding company Andrew Elliot Group LLC (AEG) has acquired Heumann Environmental Company (HEC), a manufacturer of custom-engineered industrial equipment used in processing and pollution-control applications.

Terms were not disclosed.

Based in Louisville, HEC designs and builds high-efficiency cyclones, the specialized industrial equipment that separates microscopic particles from gas streams. Used for industrial processing applications and for pollution control, the high-efficiency cyclones are custom configured for companies operating within many industries, including pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, chemical, petroleum, plastics, wood products, and utilities. HEC also serves customers with additional complementary technologies and consulting services.

As a wholly owned operating entity of the Louisville-based holding company AEG, Heumann Environmental expects to benefit from AEG’s management, administrative, capital and manufacturing resources. AEG, which buys and operates small and medium sized businesses, owns Badd, LLC, a Jeffersonville, Ind.-based engineering and manufacturing company that serves infrastructure companies.

Bill Heumann co-founded AEG in 2010 and founded HEC in mid-2011. He is the CEO of both companies.

AEG’s owners acquired HEC based on Heumann’s background, experience and success within the industry. An industry expert, patent holder and technical author, Heumann provided the product and market expansion leadership to another environmental services company until its sale in 2008.

Heumann said that within the next decade, HEC expects to grab a third of the share of its target market for high-efficiency cyclones, other specialized equipment and consulting services.

“Having developed solutions for these issues for more than three decades, both on the technical side and in executive management — I can attest to the benefits of experience, wisdom and knowledge in addressing the processing and pollution-control challenges faced by companies across several industries,” said Heumann. HEC was formed to address the most vexing particle/gas separation challenges, and being a part of AEG will provide a solid foundation for customer service and growth.

“We’re excited about the opportunities for both AEG and HEC,” Heumann said.

About Heumann Environmental

HEC provides consulting services and specialized equipment, custom designing and building high-efficiency cyclones, the specialized industrial equipment that separates microscopic particles from gas streams, for applications in a number of industries. HEC complements the use of high-efficiency cyclones, as needed, with an array of scrubber, filter and electrostatic precipitator (ESP) technology. More information about HEC is available at http://www.heumannenviro.com.

Heumann Environmental Company begins operations, providing solutions for industrial processing, recovery and pollution control applications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Founder also stresses company’s diagnostic, educational and technical resources

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (January 23, 2012) -- Heumann Environmental Company (HEC) officially launched its business today, working with industrial customers to optimize production processes, enhance product recovery efforts and address pollution control applications.

Based in Louisville, HEC designs and builds high-efficiency cyclones, the specialized industrial equipment that separates microscopic particles from gas streams. HEC custom configures high-efficiency cyclones for companies specific to the application and the industry, from pharmaceuticals to petrochemicals and wood products to utilities. Additionally, HEC complements the use of cyclones, when needed, with an array of scrubber, filter and electrostatic precipitator (ESP) equipment.

Chief Executive Officer William L. Heumann, an industry expert and patent holder whose background includes leading the international expansion of another environmental services company, says HEC was formed to address the most vexing particle/gas separation challenges.

“Having developed solutions for these issues for more than three decades, both on the technical side and in executive management — I can attest to the benefits of experience, wisdom and knowledge in identifying core issues and developing efficient solutions,” said Heumann.

“Maximizing process efficiency -- and doing so quickly and efficiently -- provides the greatest value to customers,” he said. “We are here to solve problems, assembling knowledgeable teams, and recommending and manufacturing equipment as needed to custom engineered solutions.”

The company develops entirely new systems for new industrial operations, or it can analyze existing industrial systems to determine the causes of underperformance and recommend actions to optimize processes.

Current and future HEC products include:

  • High-Efficiency Cyclones
  • Scrubbers
  • Classifiers
  • Filters

On the services side, HEC provides:

  • Troubleshooting and Optimization
  • Balanced Air Ventilation System Design
  • Fluid Bed System Design
  • Aerodynamic particle size analysis (liquid sedimentation)
  • Pilot testing

Education and technical resources

To help company engineers identify the possible causes of subpar performance, and to provide possible solutions, HEC has established a technical library and a step-by-step high-efficiency cyclone diagnostic resource on its website.

Also, HEC offers technical seminars and lectures to provide additional insight to engineers and production management involved in sourcing cyclone or related process equipment, with additional custom expertise only a phone call away.

In late January, the company founder is scheduled to conduct a joint technical session about high-efficiency cyclones to members of the Louisville chapters of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

“This company was developed to be a valued technical partner and resource to solve the most vexing and complex issues that companies face,” said Heumann. “Our overriding goal is to bring value to organizations, when they need it the most.”

About HEC leadership

Bill Heumann founded Heumann Environmental Company to provide a trusted resource for industrial customers who need efficient, custom-engineered solutions for pollution control, process optimization, ventilation, dust collection, product recovery and related applications.

For more than two decades, Bill served as Chairman, President and CEO of an environmental services company, expanding its product line and into new products and markets, acquiring attractive companies and eventually expanding operations into China. In 2008, the company was sold and became part of an Ohio conglomerate.

On the technical side, Mr. Heumann has been awarded several patents and has developed or co-developed proprietary technologies utilizing cyclones and fluidized bed systems. He has published several scientific technical papers on industrial air pollution controls and systems. Most recently he co-wrote “Harnessing the Power of Cyclones,” the May 2011 cover story for Chemical Engineering magazine. He is the author of the Industrial Air Pollution Control Systems engineering textbook published in 1997. He has also provided engineering consulting for CO2 Solutions LLC, a company involved with converting refinery CO2 emissions into diesel fuel. A full biography is available at www.heumannenviro.com
